Women’s Health Foundation (WHF) once again hosted its 7th annual fundraising gala, Below the Belt: Fighting for Women’s Pelvic Health to a sell out crowd on Saturday night. Held at Chicago’s gorgeous live music venue, City Winery, the event raised over $80,000 – beating last year’s event. WHF once again had the fun “Punch A Bunch” game with all players walking away with prizes like restaurant gift certificates, yoga classes, spa days, and bottles of wine. Silent auction packages included tickets to see Ariana Grande, Cubs tickets and more. Live Auction packages included a week in Canada’s Laurentian mountains, a week in Telluride, and a steamy “Let’s Get It On” package with products and services for a very wicked date night.
Comedian Jessica Hornstein kicked the night off with her hilarious parodies, “Shaving All My Fuzz for You,” and “I’ve Been Kegeling Since You Walked In” backed by the Bob Parlier Trio.
WHF Founder Missy Lavender then welcomed the crowd and together with WHF Spanish Community Educator, Naomi Martell and La Mujeres en Accion Representative, Bertha Morin, shared some of the success stories of Women’s Health Foundation’s Community Health Educator program in Chicago.
The 2015 Medical Activist Award Winner, Leslie Wooldridge, shared a moving speech about the importance healthcare providers have in educating their patients. Sallie Sarrel, the 2015 Passion Award winner, spoke of not often talked about success stories of pelvic dysfunction patients and the importance of sharing this vital information with all women and girls. A rousing raffle draw and live auction followed with master auctioneer, Renee Jones. Top selling items were a week in a beautiful home in Telluride, Colorado as well as a week in Lake Geneva. The top earning silent auction items were a diamond tennis bracelet and box seats for the White Sox. The living legend herself, Mavis Staples, welcomed the crowd around 9 p.m. and immediately everyone got to their feet to dance. Staples commanded the stage with a rousing 45 minute set.
